Clean Shaven

If you are accustom to BYU, Brigham Young University, you may know that there is a strict dress/apprentice code. You may also know that I am a fan of the beard. Well long story short I had to shave it all off...

I look like a baby now...

Marshal and His Jeans...

So if you know me you probably know that i have a "jean obsession" as some may say. Basically i enjoy wearing raw/dry selvage denim that after wearing for a period of time begins to desserts and fade. I really enjoy the character it brings to the jean, as well the story it bring to them. The jeans really begin to become something special, something of value that one could hang on a wall equal to a work of art.

Anyway about a week ago i gave them their 3rd wash after 20 months of continuous wear, and i just wanted to make a post about it. Well here they are!

Boom there you have it, and they started out looking like this...

I took this over the summer when I went backpacking for 10 days out in the back country of New Mexico know as Philmont. This is a 3 shot panoramic that i took with my Nikon FE. Im a Canon fanboy, but i wasn't going to risk my 50D, or mint condition F1 out there.

There is a hawk in my backyard

Yep thats right, earlier today I was in my basement editing photos when my brother tell me there is a hawk right outside the door,  no joke there was a hawk just chilling out!

We noticed that it was eating insects and that it was blind in its right, so we thought we would feed a a few mice that normally go to our snake. My brother approached it no problem and just plopped the thing right in front of it. It was cautious at first but soon dug right into it.

Then we called a wild life rescue and told them about what was going on, because it seemed odd and we thought that it might need help. They confirmed to us that hawks normally will not behave like this and that we could capture it  and bring it to them the next day.

Armed with gloves and a towel we scared the hawk inside our house, and my brother grabbed it by the legs. Strangely it didn't really fight back much at all, no biting or struggling, it flapped its wings a few times but that was it.

I honestly would like to keep it and train it it hunt for me, but oh well its going on the the wildlife preserve tomorrow, ill miss it!

Once again, another day down.

"Can we get matching t-shirts?" "Can we date other people?"

This weekends was a big adventure, to describe it shortly.  To start it off i decided to take a photographic adventure into the woods, and no not the play, but the forests of Georgia.

It was nice, except i probably walked into 10 of theses...

Anyway then this weekend ended with a picnic at stone mountain with some friends of mine.

And to top it all off I made it into the finals in my photography contest!

The Gray Card

The first shot of a shoot is always the same with me, and that tends to be the only similar thing about my photo shoots, the gray card.

Well today I was doing a senior session, and I must say it started out roughly. My car battery was not starting, but luckily I had an assistant,Christian DiCenso, tag along this shoot and we took his car. On our way there i noticed some dark clouds so we hurried to get things set up quickly, so we could take them down quickly.

The lighting was fairly basic, a dyi beauty dish was our key light with a shoot-through umbrella as fill, and a bare speedlight camera right was added as a kicker later. The results...

I really liked the cross-beans in the back, I always enjoy intreating backgrounds

About another hour into the shoot and it started to thunder, but I wanted to try just one more thing (We also shot on this little pathway fyi). There is a nice little river running through this park, hints the bridge, and i wanted to incorporate it into a shot somehow. I have always enjoyed long exposure waterscape work with the smooth glossy water, so i thought i would give that a try, and after some brainstorming I came up with this.
We would put Sarah, the model, out on a rock in the river, then Christina would hold the beauty dish like a boom to get some light on sarah, camera left.
Next I took a two second exposure of the exact same shot to get that nice glossy effect.
Finally, with the magic of photoshop, i took the water from the second photo, and layered it over the first photo.

The second after my shutter clicked we saw lightning in the sky, and hightailed it out of there just a quickly as aw set up, all and all a fun shoot.

And once again, another day down.

What to do on a hot day

Today I went out with a friend to "play" soccer with him and a few of his buddies, little did he know that I had no intention on kicking a ball around, or that it was 95 degrees out. Anyway, as they ran on the field I pulled out my camera and decided to work on my sports photography skills.

It was fun capturing them but as I continue I began paying more attention to the ball itself. Not really sure why but it started becoming more interesting then the game.

Once the players released released it was too hot to play, your feet would start to burn if you stood still too long, we headed back home and decided to take some portraits to kill time, back to something im more familiar with. After about a half our trying to find an interesting spot in his house i gave into something simple, a white wall.

Another day down.
